How can I create an innovative, digital solution by applying a user-centered design approach?

Come up with a solution to a real world problem by wireframing an app using Figma.

Love Your Laundry Logo

My digital solution to a real world problem? An app that uses a phone’s camera to scan the laundry symbols on tags and then informs the user how to wash each garment. My concept app”Love Your Laundry” was born.

I also wanted to design a clean, playful logo that reflects the ease and convenience of using the app to complete laundry tasks with the app. This project highlights my first time designing in Figma and my ability to create user-friendly brand identities with minimal experience.

Through competitor research I found several similar apps, but they were extremely simple with no real visual interest behind them. I knew this was something I could improve as my first design project.

The problem I was solving was real world – real users with real problems – but the solution didn’t have to be real world. This conceptual project meant that I could explore app design and wireframing without having to worry about bringing the app to development.

It can be difficult to remember all the different symbols when doing your laundry. Laundering your clothes as instructed by the manufacturer can extend the life of your clothing and save you money in the long run. Dry clean, wash, dry and iron; lines and dots – it can get confusing fast.

Now you don’t need look up each symbol individually! Simply scan the laundry symbols on the tag of your garment and you will be given simple instructions to launder your garment the right way – every single time!

Perfect for that capsule wardrobe you just invested in. Whether it’s your first time out of the nest and you’re unfamiliar with doing laundry or you want to get the most out of your classic pieces, Love your laundry will make it a breeze.

This wireframe for Love Your Laundry outlines the foundational structure of the app’s user interface. My first project in Figma, it focuses on optimizing the user flow and interaction points, including navigation, task management, and key user actions.

I added heart animation was while the app processes to improve overall visual interest and user communication.

I kept the typography light and readable with “Poppins” in a variety of weights for headings and text. The logo incorporates “Lobster 2” and “Raleway”.

I used a pastel colour palette, which is pretty but also safe. If I were to continue work on this project I would punch it up with brighter colours. I incorporated texture as part of the header, and I’d add more texture to the app as well.

The design system for Love Your Laundry incorporates a set of design elements, to ensure consistency throughout the app. The design system has since become an essential part of any project, as it showcases attention to detail in creating intuitive, scalable interfaces, however this one leaves out typography and other UI elements.

I would love to go back and explore this project further and even bring it to the development phase. It was my first project using Figma and I’ve learned so much more since working on Love Your Laundry.

I think there’s room to add a database where you can add pieces of clothing, then sort and tell the user what can be washed at the same time. There could even be detailed washing instructions, for example, how to actually hand wash something. I could even see a laundry detergent brand partnership.
